Default shaded ducts look different in plan and section view

I have a problem with the way ducts are viewing in shaded with edges in RME 2011. They look fine in plan a nice grey. In section they appear and print a lot darker and it looks confusing.

If I use consistent colors everything is the same but it is dark instead of light and I can't see where I can change it.

I opened a project with 2011 that was created in 2009 and it looks ok... the colors are the same in section and plan.

    any ideas??

In section turn shadows on then go to "Graphic display options" and adjust the shadows?

One test, you could apply your Floor Plan view template to your section and see if the "grays" become the same. This can always be reversed via "Undo". If this DOES work then you know its a setting contained in the view template, if it DOES NOT work then you also know those settings are not the issue. It could also mean you have a view template setting working in 2009 that isn't in 2011. A transfer project standards could then take care of it.

For the benefit of the group, I may have an answer. Under the Graphic Display Options for the properties of the view, check the Sun Intensity and Indirect Lighting settings. In my test project I was able to duplicate the same issue in Revit 2011's Advanced example that came with the software. Sections that existed looked lighter than sections I created.

So I created a new view template with the Sun Intensity set to 0 and Indirect Lighting set to 30 and made it the "default". Now every section I cut looks good.
