Rubber Banding Line For Rectangle

The rubber banding line usually comes along when we use 'Rectang' command to draw a rectangle.It gives us an indication of how far the rectangle is being drawn.

But of late I have been observing that the rubber banding line is not following the rectangle command.What could be the possible problem?

Is DRAGMODE set to Auto?
