    Default Switch to LT?

I am trying to decide if instead of making the leap from AutoCAD 2007 to AutoCAD 2010, if maybe going to AuotCAD LT would be right for me.

I contract out my cad work. My work is site planning work, not design. The running joke with my contract cad people is that it's cartoons. There is no 3-D. Everything is in 2-D. The most I will do with a file after I get it back it possible add some dimensions or calculate some areas.

I'd like some input if LY might meet my needs.

    Thanks

If that's all you're doing then I would think that LT will more than meet your needs. In fact you may even be able to just use Design Review (which is free) if you aren't actually doing any drawing work.

You could also download a free trial of LT to use for a bit to evaluate whether it would suit you.

There are several other differences between LT and full Acad, such as lisp is missing from LT.

    Hi, welcome to AUGI.

It sounds like LT will do what you want but - why change at all? Just tell your contractors to save their work in 2007 (or earlier) format.

Do you need 3D? LT is AutoCAD, with no 3D, no Lisp, No VBA, no ARX, no .NET and no Express Tools, it is just the core program in all it's glory (and flaws).

Many AutoCAD users choke in LT only because many realize too late that they really do not know the core program that well, just their decades old lisp routine crutches that masked things.

Download the trial and see for yourself: listening to others should always take a back seat to real world testing.
