Default Layer States vs. Layer Manager (2004-2009 issue)

I'm currently having an issue that I'm hoping someone here can help me with. In my office a portion of the people have been upgraded to ACAD 2009, while a portion remain on 2004. The issue that I am currently up against is that layer states do not seem to be working back and forth between ACAD 2009 and ACAD 2004. I have a prototype base file that is used by multiple people in the office to start a project with. It has the floor plan, reflected ceiling plan, roof plan, and floor finish plan in it. Layer states have been setup to switch between the different plans and it works perfectly in 2009. However, when the file is opened up in 2004, the layer states are not showing up. I know that in 2004 we used the LMAN express tool and in 2009 that express tool no longer exists and is now the integrated Layer States Manager.

Is there any way that I can save layer states in 2009 and have them work in 2004? This is causing quite a lot of issues for my office currently.

    Thanks in advance.

I have this same issue with several workstations in my office and it's wreaking havoc on workflow. Anytime a file is opened in ACAD 2009, the LMAN settings go away and can't be used when someone in ACAD 2007 opens the files. And the Layer States that 2009 says it is creating to mimic the old LMAN settings don't duplicate the viewport settings exactly like they were setup in 2007. I haven't been able to resolve the problem.

    Any ideas?

The only "solution" that we have come up with in my office is to make the layer states in 2007 and export them to a folder within the project's folder on the server. That way if they layer states disappear for the 2007 users, then they can be imported back in as needed.

As for the "cloned" layer states in 2009 not duplicating the viewport settings, I have no solution for that as we have not faced that issue yet.
