The underscore key isn't giving you the look you want? ___________?
Hi
Check out the following Technical Document on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -
ID: TS56497 - Mtext won't underline blank spaces with SHX fonts
Have a good one, Mike
Did this work for you??
I'm having the same problem... Text underlines just decide if they want to work on their own I guess. I'm using TTF fonts, other computers with the same user profile display correctly. MINE on the other hand used to work fine and recently (some time after an "Automatic windows update") just quit working correctly. I don't know if it's a display driver issue, an Autoedsk issue, a Windows issue or what.
Any clues???
Bill
Hi Bill
Please note I have merged you original thread into this one.
Why? - You were asking the exact same question in two places; goes against "AUGI Forum Guidelines".
Plus by having one central location (thread) will greatly help those people arriving to offer their assistance / help....
Thanks, Mike

Sounds like a Windows issue seeing as you say it started to occur after an "Automatic Windows Update".
Have you tried a Repair Install on your AutoCAD installation?
If no, give that a try (is only a five minute job).
"Same User Profile" - do you mean AutoCAD profile or Windows profile?

I just type a period at the end of the spaces. That tricks Autocad into underlining and doesn't look too bad.

I've just had this happen, too, and can't figure it out. As far as I know, absolutely nothing changed. But now I can't add underlines to spaces in True Type fonts. Another user at my office has the same problem. We've been using the Symbol font to create underlined spaces for years now, and all of a sudden it isn't working. It isn't even working in old drawings, where it used to be fine.Originally Posted by bpool
The underlines will appear if there is any character (except for a space) following the underlined spaces. But I think even a period looks bad at the end of a line that shouldn't have a period.
I have found that using the underline character (not the underline toggle in the MTEXT editor) in a TrueType font will get the underline to be continuous, rather than a dashed line (which is what you get with the underline character and a Shape Font). Using the Times New Roman font, and setting it to Bold Type, gets a line that is almost the same lineweight as clicking the underline button in the MTEXT editor. I think I'll go with this workaround for the time being, since it isn't as annoying as drawing Line objects over the MTEXT.
This problem is occuring with both 2004 and 2006 installations on my machine, and with the 2004 installation on a coworker's computer. Strange.
With block attributes you can enter blank spaces with a period at the end of the blank spaces, and then erase the period and the underline stays under the blank spaces
