display problem in 2004

I am stuck using version 2004, which is pain enough.

Somehow, acad is no longer showing objects during manipulation.

For instance, when I go to put in constructiion lines, all I get is the pick box, and no ghost image of where the new line is going. Or when moving or copying objects, I get no image of the objects as they are being moved. Seems like something is wrong.

Is this something that was not even in older versions, and I am just now noticing it after over a year? Or is it some setting that I accidently changed?

Is DRAGMODE set to Auto? This would affect the display of objects when beng moved, but not the "rubber band" when drawing lines....

I don't think it's in OPTIONS or anything. It's just an old system variable.
It may have been turned off by a lisp routine that failed to turn it back on.
