    Default ECCENTRIC REDUCER?!?!?

i'm trying to make an eccentric reducer and i'm about to throw my computer out the window!

i've read other forums and it says just align the edges of two ducts, so i did that and it comes up with the picture you see at the bottom. the thing is, if i do the same thing in a different file, it works! what's going on!?!?!?

Have you tried the Justify tool?

Select the 3 items, both ducts and the transition, and on the ribbon you should see the tool, you can then select 1 of 9 justification points for the transition.

yeah, i tried it... it says "no auto route solution was found"

it's weird because i can do it fine when i open a different project. i don't get why it won't do it on this one

What is the transition family that is being used? Is it the one that ships with the provided templates or is it something that has been "customized"? If the transition isn't built to support justification the application won't be able to correctly justify the items.

Your issue could stem from drawing ductwork at a particular height offset. This offset measures to the center of the duct. When you hit your transition with an eccentric top the center offset of the new duct is shifted vertical but the end of the next piece of ductwork is back at the original offset. This would make it appear that your transition is also part elbow, bending your ductwork verticaly.

The trick is to construct your offset with a yes/no parameter for eccentricity. Make the default no (ie concentric) and draw the ductwork. Afterward, go back, select the transition, and check the eccentric box. Revit will then automaticaly adjust the offset off the connected ductwork.

Isn't a "eccentric reducer" a weird flaky boss, who lays off all his best workers?

    cheers.................. from the "archy" side
