Default Issues with .dwt files created in 2010 being compatible with ACAD '09

    Hi.

I'm experiencing some compatability issues. For some reason, a .dwt file that I revised in C3D 2010 is now, no longer functioning with ACAD '09. When my colleagues try and open the file in 2009, it is saying that it was created with an incompatible version of AutoCAD.

The file has been saved in the .dwt format, and should work so I'm a little confused.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks,

    Sean

When you saved to dwt it is still a 2010 version file format. It does not save as a lower version (2009) even if it was a lower version to start with. 2009 can not open a 2010 version.

I haven't tested this but you should be able to save it to a previous format DWG file and rename it to DWT.

If your other users are actually on Autocad 2009, then you should be able to do as Jeff says, and save the file as a 2007 drawing, then change the extension to DWT.

If they're using Civil 3D 2009, though, you can't do that. Once you upgrade a Civil 3D drawing or template, you cannot convert it back to the old version. The trip is one-way-only.

And this is true for EVERY release of Civil 3D - unlike the core Autocad DWG format, which only changes every three years, the Civil 3D format has been changing every year. That means C3D 2010 cannot use C3D 2011 drawings or templates, even though both ostensibly use the Autocad 2010 DWG format.

Oops. I thought this was in the AutoCAD forum. Sinc is correct.
