AutoCAD 2011 crash when re-opening

I've recently installed AutoCAD 2011 and have this persistent problem.
1) open a drawing, then close the drawing window leaving autocad open
2) go to windows explorer, double click on a dwg
3) it tries to open then gives me an error- FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading ...

Are there any problems using the Open command in Acad instead of Explorer?

What happens if you drag and drop from explorer to the AutoCAD window?

I opened from autocad and did drag-n-drop, both work. As I was doing this to a bunch of different dwgs, one threw up a message box that said I have errors in the drawing and I should perform a recover. I recovered all the drawings in this directory and am now not having a problem.

I now think the times that the open failed was due to errors in drawings, not specifically AutoCAD 2011. (Although it is odd that ACAD 2008 in our office was not having this issue, and I was only having the issue when acad was already open)
