    Post AutoCAD to Microstation

I know, I know, MS is a bad word around here and I assure you that I am not switching by choice. I am looking for some sort of tutorial (online or otherwise) or book that can get me around Microstation. I have never used it before and will be performing 2D as built HVAC and Plumbing drawings. None are from scratch, but I will have to manipulte what is there as well as draw in new items. Thanks for your help!

Bentley has (it's been awhile since I saw it last) a short tutorial and a reference text called somethingn like, Transition guide for Autocad users. I'm sure the title is wrong but try checking out the online help files. I know you find something. Many resellers have transition training as well. With the release of V8 they are selling dwg editing within the MS interface so they have to have some resources available to you to make that possible.

    Hi

Please note I've *moved* this Topic (Thread) from the AutoCAD General Forum to this one as I believe it would be better served here.

    Thanks, Mike

I think in this business, you are bound to work with multiple cad packages at some time or another.

Check out "Microstation for AutoCAD Users" by Conforti and Grabowski.
    ISBN# 0-934605-85-8

It'll help, although you're always better off with AutoCAD!

I'm "bi" two. I learned AutoCAD to be able to teach it, then transfered to a branch that used MicroStation, used it for the first several months, but "snuck" in AutoCAD when nobody was looking and have been using it ever since.

I agree the Grabowski book mentioned above it a good investment. Doubt it's been updated lately, though. Found a few typos, too.

I'd be curious if you turn to the dark side or not. I keep a file of pros and cons, and opinions of each, but it always seems to boil down to simply: use what your client requires.

Ten years ago MS seemed to have far more features than AutoCAD. I was embarased that AutoCAD didn't have BHATCH, Multiline text, or True Type (filled) fonts until R12. AutoCAD didn't have solid fill until R14, as I recall.

On the other hand, MicroStation didn't have >63 layers until recent.

But MicroStation has always had better Reference files (you could copy single elements out of a Reference file into your working file) than AutoCADs "XREFs".

we can go on and on.

    I suggest The MICROSTATION BIBLE,
probably not a new release however
a very good resource for you to have.

    Howdy.

One of our more major clients is all MS (yuk! ), so I had to become literate in the program. I went for a week of training at a local dealer. It was good, but I lost most of what I leaned through lack of practice. My MS (yuk! ) brain cells atrophied.
