data extraction from attributes

Hi, I have several drawing files containing room area data in attributes. I can extract the room area data to an Excel spreadsheet, and I can also extract the room data to a table in AutoCAD which is updated if the attributes are edited (or if one is added), but I don't seem to be able to extract the room data to a spreadsheet in such a way that the spreadsheet gets updated if the attributes are edited (or if one is added). Can this be done?

Not directly. You have to run the DataExtract command again, overwriting the XLS file. Otherwise you can do something like this using some add-ons, there might be several available.
