Alignment tools

I have been using Civil 3D for a few years now for most jobs I utilize the majority of the tools but i'm finding that as much as i want to I still don't find the alignment tools user friendly and i end up doing the layout in LDD first.
My biggest complaint is that lines and curves menu doesn't have spirals so you have to create an alignment just to taper a lane through a curve.

Am i missing something?

The alignment toolbar should have spiral functions right there. I'm using Civil 3D 2007 and it has it.
