Question Need Help Selecting New CAD Station

It is time to upgrade my work PC and I was curious what everyones opinions are on the systems I have had quoted to me. All are from the Dell Precision lineup and will be running Windows 7 64-bit. Also, I have recently upgraded to an NVIDIA Quadro FX580 which I will be migrating into my new PC.

    Station 1: Dell Precision T5500; Quad Core E5506, 2.13GHz, 4M, 4.8GT/s; 12GB DDR3 EEC SDRAM; Approximately $2,100

    Station 2: Dell Precision T5500; Quad Core E5506, 2.13GHz, 4M, 4.8GT/s; 6GB DDR3 EEC SDRAM; Approximately $1,800

    Station 3: Dell Precision T1500; Quad Core i7, 2.8GHz, 8MB; 8GB DDR3 Non-EEC SDRAM; Approximately $1,700

    Station 4: Dell Precision T5500; Dual Core E5503, 2.0GHz, 4M, 4.8GT/s; 6GB DDR3 EEC SDRAM; Approximately $1,500

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I would go with Station 3. Because of the higher clock speeds, plus the Xeon CPUs and ECC memory is a huge waste of money.

unless there's a corporate requirement for Dell, look over the offerings at Xi Computer. Generally better bang for the buck.

Other than that - if those 4 are your only options, then Glenndp has you covered.

You can save yourself a ton of money by building them on your own. Use this guide with the updated price/sources. I am an Architect and IT support for AEC firms, I had been building my ow pc's since mid 80s. Here is the URL:
