    Default GIS novice

    Hello there,

I have been working as a Mapping Technician for 1 year, but have design experience of 10 years and a degree in Design Communication (4 years).

I have been asked to write down my role, which encompasses GIS mapping (Ecology), design support for landscape (AutoCAD/Adobe Creative Suite) and branding concept, design and production (Marketing).

Does anyone have any ideas what the salary should be?

As a designer, national average is £22,000... but what about the GIS aspect?

    cheers
    Cas

I found that the salaries very a lot depending on the employer. For instance, civil and government agencies rely on super-expert GIS users but they pay the lowest rates. The mining industry gets by with rudimentary GIS skills but they pay the highest.

I have found that entry level GIS users will vary from $30-50 K USD depending on the industry. The upper end can be in the 6 digit range if you have skills specific to the industry, in this case maybe being familiar with drilling and geology.

Point being maybe try to specialize in a particular industry type, i.e. real estate, survey companies, petroleum or mining...etc.
