    Default Associate and Professional Certification

    Scenario:
I am getting ready to take the certification tests on Friday to be both Associate and Professionally Certified.
I am reviewing, reading, and testing items in Revit that we don't commonly use on a daily basis. I feel I am prepared but still have the lingering feeling I may not be as prepared as I need to be.

    Questions:
What does everyone wish they would have prepared better for?
Is there anything you wished you would have done differently in preparation for the exams?
Which do you feel was more difficult, the Associate or the Professional exam?

Any guidance, tips, bad stories, good stories, whatever, will be helpful.

    Thanks

If you can get around Revit pretty good....the Professional exam should be pretty straightforward...

As for the Associate, it seemed to be all the "This is what Revit can do" type of questions... Of course I took the 2009 exams, so things could have changed since then...as I did not pass the Associate.. Then again....I didn't study for it either

Any other "free" practice tests out there?

I've paid and completed the one from Autodesk and completed one located @

which was helpful. Looking for more.....anyone?

to be honest, the professional one was WAY easier cause it's hands on with the software itself. The Associates one was questions that in my opinion had vocabulary about the software that was either rarely used, or strangely structured. A few of them I found myself reading them over 3-4 times cause it would just be worded oddly.

With that said, if you use the software semi-regularly, you shouldn't have too hard a time doing it.

I originally took the test for 2010. I passed the Professional test the first time, no problem. If you use the program regularly and can follow directions you should pretty much be able to pass the Professional.

It took me 2 times to pass the 2010 Associate, I actually studied the 2nd time.

For the 2011 test I was able to pass the Associate the first time I took it.

I would say the wording of the questions for the Associate is the hardest hurdle, once you know what to expect you can figure out what they are trying to ask.

If you are a good "test taker" you should be able to study the materials and pass the Associate.

    Hey there,
Not to mention, your ability to remember things like, which fields are in the Schedules? It's easy when you have Revit open. But, from memory....hard.
Same with element's property...is it an 'instance' or 'type' property? Sometimes, you just can't remember which screen it is on.

    Frustrating.
    Good luck

    Thanks for everyones feedback
I have taken some practice exams and couldn't agree with you all more
Definately some terminology in there not often used and some of the wording is a little tricky

    Well, that was easy...
    I am now certified.

I would definately agree with most of the points listed.
The Professional Certification was easy and the Associate Certification was a little tricky, but if you use Revit daily and use it to its potential by using the majority of the commands, you should have no problem.

My suggestions for anyone taking the certifications would be to cover and know all areas listed @

Also, take a practice test so you know what to expect.

Good luck and thanks again for the pointers!
