    Default IFC import issues

    Hi,
I received an IFC file from the architect who is using Archicad. When I open the ifc file in revit some of the walls are not trimmed properly to the roofs but
when I open the IFC file in BIMsight the walls are OK.
Is it that revit doesn't read IFC files as well as other programs or is it more complicated than that?
We have now solved the wall problem with the architect as they apparently have different option for how the walls are being trimmed.

    Thanks,
    J

Revit reads the IFC reasonably well, but the issue is it's not trying to read it. It's converting an IFC into an RVT and this is where the issues occur. Things like BIM Sight and Solibri show things reasonably well say from Digital Project, Tekla, Revit, ArchiCAD etc... but back in revit it's alot messier since the shapes are developed and handled differently as well as the relationships.

Your not opening IFC in Revit your always converting IFC into Revit files.

    Thanks,

It makes sense but it would be good to be able to have an option to "read" the IFC file and convert it if necessary. Shouldn't complain though - it is a massive help to get an IFC file from an Architect rather than working of dwg files

    Cheers,

IFC is a fairy tale with no happy ending yet.

Archicad handles IFCs very well. The problem lies with Revit.
