Question Upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit

Our company is going to upgrade thier computers to Windows 7 in April. These will be 64 bit work stations for engineering. Our files are usually very large because of the complexity and size of the equipment we deal with. Can anyone give me an idea as to how much memory and speed that would be best to use. The computers will be IBM.

AFAIK, 8gb is the min & the high end CPU is recommended because the Inventor package drains a lof of resources when it is loaded.

I recommend at least a i7 cpu running at 2.93Ghz or greater. Add a pair or striped drives nice running at 7200 rpm minimum (Western Digital for reliability) and don't forget a fast graphics card (check the inventor info as to which cards are recommended and which drivers for the version of Inventor. Use Windows 7 E, P or U 64-bit with 4 each 4Gb memory modules. This should do the trick. I expect that most of this stuff is offered as a standard option in IBM workstations. DON'T let purchasing cut corners on the specs. A one time savings will result in many time added costs while using.

After reading some threads over the net, I decide to upgrade my ram from 8GB to 24GB.
