Default Showing before and after site contours

In my site plan, I would like to show contour lines for the existing site and proposed works. I have set the existing site to demolition phase and it comes up dashed. This is all good, except for where proposed levels are higher than existing (or vice versa), then I don't see all the lines. I've attached the site plan (minus building for clarity).

What I would like to do is to show the site in wireframe and building in hidden line.... suggestions?

Put two views over each other on your drawings sheet. The site can be wireframe, the building HL, and they should snap to the same alignment. Then you need to use a different tag that is really "blank" for one of the views. There are threads on this for a roof plan, same concept for your site plan.

The problem with over-laying topo site views is that it can be very confusing to distinguish between the various contours in the views.

One way of overcoming this is to use phases.

    1. Set up the existing topo view in the existing phase & set it to be demolished in the New Phase.

    2. Set the Phase Graphic Override for Demo to colour Red, Line Pattern demolished, - for example.

3.Duplicate the view to New Phase & filter to show New only ( Hidden Line view) Copy the topo & paste it same place into this view.

    5. Edit the topo.

    6. Set the View to Wireframe & the View Properties phase filter to show Demo + New. ( Still in the New phase )

The result should look something like the attached graphic.

Thanks guys... I came to the same conclusions myself.... I've overlaid the 2 plans (hidden line and wireframe) and the demolished site is shown as dashed. But... the contour lines are now overlaid over the building...

Any ideas for them not to show through?

Its do-able, but a bit fiddly.

    1. In the Existing topo view, set the phase to Show Previous + Demo ( so that the contours display as demolished – red dashed or whatever )
    2. Create a white solid filled region by tracing around the building footprint and place in that view. This hides the contours below. Hidden line display.
    3. Export this view as a dwg using shared coordinates.
    4. In the Site New view, set to hidden line & filter to Show Complete.
    5. Import the dwg, origin to origin, preserve colours.
    6. Select the dwg and set it to foreground.

Of course, you will need to repeat this if the building outline changes.
