Unable to see Spline as I draw it

I am trying to draw a spline. After I click to enter my first point, the previous segment disappears. I can then see the current line segment, but then when I click again to accept the point, the segment disappears and then I see the new line segment. This continues to happen until I close the group, and then I can see the entire thing. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't find anything documented about it anywhere.
