    Default Framing Family being deleted

I am using REVIT Structure 2011. The ‘Structural Framing’ Family has been mysteriously removed from 2 of my models now. This happens in the middle of the project. I am working with only one other person in the model and neither of us are deleting the beams. They are all of a sudden missing from the model and when you look under the family the w8x10 is the only beam left. It's only losing the w-shape members. Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Are you purging the model?

Are the members actually instanced in the model or just in the library?

The model has not been purged. Even if it was these were w-shapes which have instances within the model. At first I blamed it on the RISA REVIT link, but then it happened on a model where the link was not being used. REVIT warns you before it deletes family instances. There are other models(arch & mep) linked into the file.

Is it possible that someone is importing a family with an identical name (for example 250PFC) and you have somehow altered this family without renaming it. When they go to import that family again, the name is the same, they are clicking "overwrite" and you are losing the old one which should replace the new insert in its place.

We just had a similar problem with all WF shapes disappearing. What caused it is this; one of the engineers working on a shared model (using Central File) tried to use Load Family to add a new wide flange shape for a column. Except rather than go to the column family, he went to the framing family. Revit told him that he could not load a WF shape from a framing family for a column, and asked if he wanted to open a new family to load the column? When he said yes, it let him open the column family and load the new column. It also then totally deleted all of the previously loaded wide flange shapes in framing family in the model.

What we don't know is how to recover from this, without using roll-back and losing all of todays work. We also don't know how Revit could have such a major a devastating bug where it would deleted the entire family of beams from your model with not even a hint that it was going to do this.

Thanks karalon10 & Elberon. The mix up between importing a framing member and column member seems plausible. REVIT does give you warnings, but they could be overlooked.

We had a similar problem in our office. Someone meant to load a detail component and they accidentally tried to load a framing member instead. When Revit gave the warning that you can't load a framing member as a detail component, we somehow ended up losing all of our channel family. Now we're stuck trying to copy them in from a back up file.

This really is a horrible horrible bug.
