Regens and layouts

I see a lot of people with this regenerating problem ask for help but I never see solutions or explanations.
I just wish I knew what was going on. Is it the new graphics engine that is not cooperating, or do we just have bad computers?

Hello Jaberwok. Thanks for asking.

It was taking 45 seconds to switch to/from layout tabs. Yesterday I loaded a 2/11 video driver for my Nvidia FX 3800 and now i can change tabs in less than 15 seconds. It still feels like the system is waiting for permission to proceed or performing a big search.

"Regenerating model." and "Regenerating model - caching viewports." still seem to lock it up for a short while.

I'm running an 8 core xeon processor in a dell T3500. It seemed faster than my old machine when I first got it.

When I google "Regenerating model - caching viewports." I see a lot of posts In Autodesk Discussion Groups from people with the same problem but I never see a solution. I was just wishing there was a solution.

Well, the number of cores isn't going to make a big (if any) difference. Clock speed is far more important to AutoCAD. That's why I went for the fastest i5 processor.
15 seconds is a lo-ong time to wait tho'.
