    Default Force text style/font

Does anyone know of a way to force a change in text style/font, I receive a lot of drawings where the text style may use Arial or Tahoma fonts but this can only be changed in each individual mtext dialogue box (taking a lot of time) rather than the through a global change in the text style?
Our standard is romans and other fonts on the x-ref make the drawing look amateurish and can obscure detail.
Possibly this is one for the LT wishlist.

If the font is embedded in the MTEXT string, then you will have to remove this formatting. (Edit the MTEXT, select all, right-click, remove formatting)

Once you do that, the MTEXT will respond to font changes that you make to the STYLE.

If the font is determined within each text object you really want access to a copy of full acad so you can use stripmtext.lsp.
If not, and the various drawings use a small range of text style names, you can create a blank drawing containing style definitions using the same names and your standard fonts and insert the drawings, one at a time, into the blank drawing and save over the original files. The style definitions in your blank drawing will over-ride the choice of fonts.

i am trying to bring schedules in from excell and when i do the font that was used in excell overrides the text style and i have to go into each cell of the table and clear the formatting. would this "striptext.lsp" work for my problem too or is there an easier way. if i need the striptext.lsp then where would i find it?

    Thnak you in advance

According to the authors, it works in tables but, if you are using LT, you can't use lisp programmes without 3rd party add-ons.
You can find it by googling "stripmtext.lsp".

You could saveas a R12 format, and it would convert all mtext to plain text, with no formating.

What is the benefit of formatting in the mtxt string? I have found a bunch of mtxt when listed shows the style as standard but in the mtxt string it has lucida sans. Does it help with portability?

No, over ride formatting in the mtext string reduces portability.

Probably increases readability though --- adesk's shx fonts are not exactly examples of high quality typography

After saveas r12 select the text to mtext tool then save. This will give your formatting you desire.
