Arc and Circle smoothness

I cannot for the life of me view smooth arcs. They are approximated as course line segments. Options changed to a smoothness of 20,000 does not make any difference. VIEWRES, the command form from the dialog box, behaves no differently. I've not had this problem in the past. Starting a file from scratch seems to react as I would expect, with the default settings as a smoothness of 100. Even if I copy the entities from the problem file into a new file, the problem still exists. Any wisdom would be most appreciated.

Issue:
Circles and arcs do not display smooth, even though on the Display tab in the Options dialog box, the Arc and Circle Smoothness is set to above 50.

Solution

If the HIDE command has been activated or if the SHADEMODE system variable is not set to 2D Wireframe, arcs and circles will always appear as if Arc and Circle Smoothness is set to 50. This makes arcs and circles appear rough and faceted.

Use one of the following methods to resolve this problem:

Run the REGEN command to exit the HIDE command.
Set the SHADEMODE system variable to 2D Wireframe.

In addition, to what's already been said, you might want to look at the current VIEWRES setting.

The default is usually 100, which was fine in the days when a 386/25 was at the cutting edge ...

Nowadays you can crank it up to 5,000 or 10,000 without any problem, but you'll still need to do a REGEN to see the effects.
