Default Anyone using Revit with current tablet PC's?

saw a couple of older threads about tablet PC's but I was wondering what's current and if anyone is using Revit on current tablet PC's. We're doing building analysis work and use Revit to document where and what type of problem areas are found around a building. Having a tablet PC with someone entering those areas directly in the model on the fly would be pretty nice. Any suggestions?

    Hi Patrick -

If you mean iPad like tablets (Samsung Galaxy, etc.) most can't run apps like Revit. If I'm not mistaken, Revit is a Windows only app. You could use one of them to bring up PDFs of your drawings (as long as it's not an iPad - you need to use a workaround due to the battle between Adobe & Apple).

See the NY TImes comparison guide to tablets at:

One possibility is the HP Slate. If you look on that list, the HP Slate runs on Windows 7. The RAM is a little low for Revit. HP says it is hardwired in and not upgradeable. Also, not sure, but the Atom processor - is that enough power?

I have been looking for a similar replacement for my laptop - a laptop/tablet I can take into the field and use for sketching at the site and to pull up Revit files. One I have been looking at is the HP Touchsmart tm2 - it's a laptop with a touchscreen that rotates so you can fold it over the keyboard and use it as a tablet. BUT it looks like they recently have changed their offerings. Until recently you could customize it with more RAM and more powerful i5 and i7 processors. Are they phasing it out? It's hard to find on their site. I'm leery of buying it if you can't find it on their site easily. Of course, it is a lot heavier than the Slate or other tablets.

Dell has something they call the J3500 - look for it under Motion Computing. Upgradeable to 4MB RAM - a tablet that you dock to a keyboard back at the office.

And Dell has the Latitude XT2 XFR which is geared toward field work - they even show a hard hat next to one! Like the HP touchsmart, the screen rotates over a built-in keyboard. They say that you can see the screen in sunshine - a real plus.

To me, you are looking for the dream tablet - one I dream of too. Maybe the Dells are the closest we can get.

Any professional tech heads out there who have tried these? Or have guidance on the specs?

    Chris
