    Question Attaching to Instances?

I have a bunch of Lines with the Sweep mod attached. They were all attached together, so when I modify the Sweep, they all change together. I've created another line that needs the same Sweep. Is there a way to add this to the rest, so it's parameters change when I change the others? I know I can select them all, remove the modifier, then add it back on, but you guys are so smart, I thought there might be an easier way.

Thanks! Hope you don't mind the inundation of questions

Maybe I'm missing something here, but as long as it's not an Instance of the others, it should be a simple attached from the spline's sub-object mode.

With the spline with the Sweep mod on it selected...hold the control key down and click and drag the modifier from the modify panel onto the new spline in the viewport. This will instance the modifier on the new spline...dragging it normally (without the ctrl key held down) will copy the modifier. Alternatively, you can also right click on the spline with the Sweep mod on it in the modify panel and select copy...then select the other spline and right click it n the modify panel and paste...copy or instance. I like the click and drag method though!!! Hope this helps!

edit: Actually Glen is right...but if you want to be able to adjust the new spline while it retaining the Sweep properties from the other spline...use one of my methods.

you can also right-click on the modifier's name in the modifier stack, select "copy", then select the object you want, select the top name int he modifier stack and select "Pase Instanced"

I prefer this way for a couple reasons, one of the biggest being that it's easier to copy/paste multiple modifiers that way.

On this topic of instances is there a way to remove an instance from an object. I have a student that cloned some cylinders with certain settings (segments radiuses etc.). Instead of using a clone copy she used a clone and instance. Now that she has put a colour on the cylinder it goes on all of them.

Can they be segregated, un-instanced ........?

    Thanks

Right-click then convert to Editable Poly/Mesh or whatever you like.

    or

Clone in place (Ctrl+V) using now the right mode, then hide the newly created copy and erase the previous one. Or select by name, then delete.

Ahhhhh. As soon as I read the first line I I realized i should have known that. I'll try the second technique tomorrow.

Thanks for the info I'm sure she will be happy.
