Default Label Grips not moving text

I have some bearings and distances. I need to move them just a little from the mid point. When I select the grips (either the square or the diamond) the grips move but the text does not. It seems the only thing I can do is drag it out with a leader.

What setting am I missing to get the text to move when grabbing the grips?

It could be your Style. There are ways to configure Styles so that the text is always centered, but when you do that, it ignores the location of the grip point.

    How is your Style setup?

The anchor point was set to middle. I guess it should be set to label location instead. Is there a way for it to center the text on the line as a default until you need to move if it is overlaping?

Only if you use the option to set multiple labels at once. If you're setting single labels, the label always goes where you put it when you create it.
