    Default Can't Orient to a plane...(Bug)

Revit 7 (current and last build) can't orient to a plane that slopes less than than 3 13/16"/12". This includes roofs, floors, ceilings ramps and named ref. planes.See attached file. Submitted to support for confirmation.... A real pain with my current roof layout.

(Just checked - didn't work in 6 either...)

What am I missing in your process? I tried adding a reference plane using 2:12 and 3:12 pitch then used them to define the work plane. I added two solids after using each to define the work plane. They were created on each work plane as expected. Are you using an object with a slope to try to define the work plane instead?

I was also able to change the work plane to any face of the objects in your file. I've attached my version of your file with the work plane change to use the 1:12 pitch object.

Not to define a work plane, but to Orient a 3D view... (F8 ).

While not esential, it is much more difficult to coordinate openings and features in a 3D view flat with the roof. (and see how things line up in wireframe.) Right now I have to cut lots of details to get the correct view, and then clean up all those detail cuts later.
