    Default "Dumbing Down" Dynamic Blocks

Dynamic blocks rule. I've found them to be one of the best tools for keeping the engineering staff in check. Like when they want to put in a bunch of incorrectly sized single-line text and draw underlines on it for title blocks? Yeah. Like that.

So I've got everyone on tap with a dynamic block library, and they're all happy with it and some have even developed blocks of thier own. But now, our primary client is demanding that all of our CAD files be submitted in Microstation (ugh). Dynamics import smoothly, but they only show up as grouped objects, NOT blocks (cells).

Anybody know of any routine that could, say, remove all of a dynamic block's dynamism while retaining it as a block?

By the way, we're an AutoDesk house. Nobody here speaks Microstation, so don't even go there.

    And I hate Microstation.

I agree that dynamic blocks are a great tool for nudging people in the right direction without hitting them over the head.

I don’t have the tools to test this theory but I wonder about saving your AutoCAD drawing to a version that predates when dynamic blocks were introduced (2006) and then converting to Microstation. I’ve heard that older versions of AutoCAD can see the dynamic block as a block without any dynamism. Have you tried anything like this?

You are correct, sir! I dumbed the drawing down to r2000 and all non-visible entities went bye-bye. Now I have a new boggle: Multileaders. They import as Microstation Element Type "Cell:AcDbMleader". They basically get turned into a block. I'm hoping the client will look the other way on that one...

    Let them suffer the MLeaders.
It's their loss if they don't have the ability to use these!
