Not able to open .dwfx file in Internet Explorer

I was told at a recent siminar on BIM that I would be able to open .dwfx files in Internet Explorer if I had XP SP3 or above as an OS.

I have tried to open a .dwfx in IE8 but I’m getting an error. My OS is XP, SP3. Note that one of our other users with win7 also can’t open the file. Our IT support also couldn't open the file with three different versions of IE.

Was the original statement not quite correct or do I need any other installation files to open the dwfx?

I use windows7-64 and IE9. Yes I can open a dwfx file in IE9 (although I had to specifically filter for "all files" to list the dwfx, and then on openeing it prompted me for permission to run scripts or activeX). All sheets in the dwfx file are viewable. Is there a reason why you dont open the file with autodesk design review instead?

Yes, s I don't have it installed. I'm not an Autodesk user. Well not quite true, I've had three days of Revit training.

autodesk design review is free, and will even open up PDF files for markup. Very useful.
