    Default Show Window Above

I have some windows (actually they are curtain walls that I am using as windows) that are above my cut plane, that I want to show dashed in the floor plan view. I set the primary range top to include the windows, but they do not appear. I would use a plan region, but for two reasons - I don't want to show the wall cut, and I have a door below one of the windows that I want to show cut properly. How do I get the windows to just appear as dashed lines?

Well if you built them as families, I think you could use some symbolic lines in the family that would show up if your view range top went up to intersect the window.

Or you could just place some dashed model lines in the door opening to represent the window above. At least that way they would show up in all views.

Due to the number of mullions involved in these windows, I built them as curtain walls instead of window families. I guess I could just to detail lines (I don't want them to show up in all views), but I'd rather see the geometry itself, and be able to tag them.

Turn on your underlay set to an RCP or an upper level where the window shows, and use line work overrides to turn those gray lines of the window into an overhead dashed line type. Turn off the underlay and those lines will remain.

Sweet, using a temporary plan region worked too. Now the problem is that it shows the linework of the individual pieces (mullions, panels...), but not the 'baseline' of the curtain wall, so I can't tag it.

If I have room on a sheet, I usually create another floor plan view and use plan regions as necessary. I place the view on a sheet and draw dashed lines to the view. It kind of an old school method from hand drafting, but it works.

I wouldn't use these all over the place, but for the one-off condition, it works nice.

    See attached.

You could do a callout-floor plan of that area, change the cut plane to be through the curtain wall and have it as a seperate partial plan on paper or you could duplicate the floor plan, crop the view to what you want and change the cut plane. Those could work if you don't mind having a partial plan view on your sheets.

Joshua and Jason - thanks for the suggestions, that's exactly what I'm going to do.
