Default Wireframe + Shaded = nightmare

Sometimes when working on complex families and projects, something happens to my revit client. Nothing really slows down, so it doesn't appear to be a processor thing.

Families and projects will go into what I call a meshing nightmare. Solids triangulate, causing its material and materials behind it to phase in and out between front and back. Shading still occurs, but all the linework turns to wireframe. The solids visible through the wireframe also start to triangulate. I like to think myself capable enough to work in either wireframe mode or shaded with edges view, but both at the same time makes me whimper.

Has anybody else experienced this and know a way to make it stop?

The only times I see a 'meshing' is when two planes line up exactly, and even then only while in shaded or realistic modes. Maybe not a processor issue, but what about video card? Is your card certified by Autodesk, and using the correct driver? Here's a link so you can check:

If it was a video card issue, it'd happen a lot more often than it does. When it does happen, Revit likes to crash when just zooming in/orbiting.

None of the materials are transparant, either.

You can try resetting the view:

Right click on the design cube and choose "orient to a direction" -> TOP

I posted a way to resolve this on recently.

In my example, the problem was due to autocad imports.

If resetting the view doesn't do it, visit the link above read the whole blog post.

Very nice, Richard! I wouldn't have thought that it was just the view getting corrupted. Knowing how revit likes to work, I thought it was the entire family/project being corrupted.

Deleting my afflicted 3D view did the trick.
