Who decides what is and what isn't useful ?

There are many cheaper alternatives already.

...and it's those "useless things" that keep the marketing people happy. Remember, the subscription money is nice, but Autodesk wants NEW customers. If AutoCAD 2019 is the same as AutoCAD 2012, then what's the point?

IOW - you could get R14 or maybe R2000 and use it. The only complaint here is that there is no way to legally acquire such as version now, if you didn't originally buy it.

also you would have to have never upgraded it or put it on subscription. Upgrade removes the license to any prior version, and subscription only permits you to use current shipping and three versions earlier,
