I'm sure you'll get a wide variety of answers, but here is my 2 cents for a minimum

    Windows 7, 64bit
    i7 processor
    12 GB ram
SSD main drive if that is an option
Hard to say on graphics card. I'm running a Quadro FX580 but I think it's a little weak.
Not doing that much viewing in 3D, but the graphics just don't 'feel' fast.
Having said that, I have not used a system with a $1500 graphics card to see how much of a difference (if any) it makes...

take whatever autodesk says is the minimum and multiply by a factor of four, and you will be happiest in the long term

thanks for previous answer, for while the system I had as follows:
    1. Processor AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
    2. Motherboard MSI 890FXA-GD70
    3. Memory Vengeance Corsair 2 x 4 Gb DDR3 PC3 12800 1600 MHz
    4. Graphic Card Leadtek NVidia Quadro 2000 1 GB DDR5

but all that I feel is still working very slowly once for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012, I plan to switch to a special processor for servers such as Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron, or with a system that has existed now I can simply add the NVidia Tesla C2050 only

This is a good site to compare processors.

I had a similar question and had to find-out for myself - documented it here
    - there is a link to a performance section specific to hardware

Also, C3D requires a file breakdown - what expert users call 'workflow' - I managed to get an answer here in an AutoCAD Civil 3D forum

Without both a hardware setup and the 'workflow' file breakdown, you will not have a good time with C3D. I did not try the Civil 3D 'workflow' file setup so I cannot guarantee you will have a good one with it but can assure you will not without it.

And, you will notice that the cpu benchmark favors multicore processors - this is useless with civil 3D since it uses 1 core, the others are running your web browser, virus scan, and music player - not civil 3D. I compared a $15 video card with a $1,200 video card and without rendering did not find a difference.

I'd say much the same as rkmcswain...

Best choice for CPU right now is probably still an overclocked i7-2600K, but that will probably change in the next month or so when Intel comes out with a new batch of chips.

    So i7-2600 (i7-2600K if you overclock), 16GB RAM, Win 7 x64.

I get much better performance out of a GeForce GTX 560 than out of a a Quadro FX580.

SSD main drive definitely helps, but be careful... Not all SSDs are created equal. Do some research before making a selection. Intel tends to make the best right now, although some of the others are catching up. Don't go for low price on those. If you don't go SSD, get the fastest drives within your budget, and maybe throw them into a RAID0 or RAID10.
