    Default Revit 2012- worst ever!!!

OK heres my take on 2012:

Autodesk has had bad releases so far but this is actually the first one where every single one new feature is completely useless for me!

You got to be kidding me!- point cloud data import?!?!?! We dont have a tool to measure area and you give me an option to laser scan a building?!?!?!

There are some features that will OCCASIONALLY be useful to a CERTAIN GROUP OF PEOPLE, but when will Autodesk realize they should urgently deal with things 99% percent of people use every single day? (wont explain further, I think it has been beaten to death on these forums already)

    what a disappointment!

Or, how about a true fillet commend? I'm also happy to see that the new hardware recommendation result in about a $6000 workstation. Oh, I just replaced the one I have less that 6mths ago, now I get to do it again?
I understand that Adesk is trying to gain more market share and sell more copies of it's software, but I'm still wondering when they're going to respond with a fixes for the 400+ support requests we have in with something other than "We'll pass that along to our development team." Does this development team actually exist? And why are they developing instead of fixing the broken stuff.
    Just a thought.

Because they are way behind the competition. Just read Autodesk 2010 portfolio review and you'll see that most new features have been around for ages already. http://www.aecbytes.com/newsletter/2011/issue_50.html

    Happens every year.
We get a new release chock full of useful new tools, and all some people can do is complain about what they didn't get.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JvtlB_NzI8
I for one (and the other 50 Revit folks in my office) am going to be much more productive with the ability to Tag through Links, Lock 3D Views - and Tag them, Make Workset Editing Requests, print Views with Ambient Shadows, and - with Realistic Views - finally get our Designers to start using Revit instead of SketchUp.

Of course, I wish they would fix every single bug ever reported, add every feature everyone has every asked for, make it instantaneously, and make me a sammich, but we do live in the real world.

    Yup, happens every year...

Autodesk releases the new version of its software, bugs and all, for its paying customers to beta test and be forced to use the previous version until SP1 is released.

Nothing is perfect, we all realize this. And honestly, I wouldn't care so much if the software was inexpensive.

WHY ARE WE PAYING AUTODESK SO MUCH MONEY TO BE BETA TESTERS FOR THEIR PRODUCTS??

On the MEP side they have made some major improvement(s).
The ability to create new systems.
    About time.
Architects have been FORCING us to use this product for the last 5 years, and it has been nothing but painful. It is my understanding that Revit is very efficient for Architects.
Sure, there might not be many more improvements on the Architectural side, but what are your complaints? Too many clouds in the sky in your renderings? You guys are making money.
Even though this release is much better than what we had to work with in the past, it is still very humorous as to where it is in development.

It's like someone walked in the room and said to the developers/programmers, "Times up. Everyone put down your mouses and let's ship it."
    It feels so incomplete.
We still have to change the underlay orientation to a reflected ceiling plan after we make a new REFLECTED CEILING PLAN...really, but the point cloud is nice.
We have to turn on the visibility of the default hydronic filter in the default plumbing view...REALLY?, but the placeholder is nice (dumb)
There still isn't an elevation coefficient for doing loads...REALLY
We still have issues with sloped piping, but I admire your effort.
Why can't we assign insulation/lining to a pipe/duct type. We still have to put it in ex-post facto...REALLY
    Parallel piping....C'mon.
We still can't assign a Ashrae loss coefficient to duct taps...REALLY
We still can't size pipe based on fixture units...REALLY
We still can't hold down shift to add to a selection or use Ctrl+A in some dialog boxes.
    WTF
It annoys the he!! out of me.
It's almost like there were 2 programmers and they each did it their own way.
    Still no consistency.
This is a windows application and in no way does it behave like one.
Still we have to pay full price for a half a$$ program.
    Thanks!!!
If video games were designed with Revit we would still be playing PONG.
I'm looking forward to another wonderful year, except this year I'm putting the swear jar on my desk.

    That made me LOL.

It's very interesting to hear the short-comings from a mechanical perspective. Honestly, all of the tools are there for me to be able to perform and present the basic design of an electrical system, in one piece of software, in one model/database - of course not right out of the box, but with some *relatively* painless effort. It sounds like this is still not the case for HVAC and piping. That would explain why most of the Mech's in my office are still doing most, if not all, of their system design outside Revit.

You summed up my main complaints with the program: I don't feel like I am working in a windows application.

I would like to add to that: by the time AutoCAD 2008 came out, I was CADD'ing with maximum efficiency due to all of the new and upgraded tools they had introduced since v2000.

Inside Revit I feel like I have reverted to R13 drafting methods...

You aren't. There was over 6 months of Alpha and Beta testing done on the Revit products prior to release this year.

    Nah, I'd rather just complain...

Thanks for the link. I think I might actually look into it.
