Question Can not Save to Central

    Hey everyone!

I am stuck. I am working in Revit MEP 2011. We have a Central file on the server. If I try and open a local copy of the Central file I can’t Sync. If I then try and Open the Central file and try and make a new Local file it is greyed out! If I open the Central file and Save As Central, close the file and then open the Local file I can now Sync, but no one else can!

What the heck am I doing wrong? We have a number of Worksets established (Lighting, HVAC…)

I am supposed to be the Revit guru, but I have no idea what is happening.

    Please send responses to jrs@treswest.com

    Thanks

You have to "detach from Central" in order to create a new central file.

And if you create a new central file everyone will have to create a new local based on the new central file.

Smile Re: Can not Save to Central

    Good morning:

I tried that, but when I created a new Central file no one else could open a Local Copy.

What I finally did was Shut Down my system for lunch, including turning off the power. When I came back everything worked just fine!

Not a clue why this was, but I will take it.

    Thanks

Angry Re: Can not Save to Central

Well here I am back to square one!

I am working with three other people on an MEP project. It is separated out with Workgroups. The last time I got some help cdatechguy suggested that I ”“Detach from Central” in order to create a new Central file”. It turns out that if I do this the other people working on the project can’t Save to Central. I actually asked everyone to get out of Revit and re-open the Central file and create a Local Copy. They were not able to Create a Local copy, it was greyed out.

What the Hell am I doing wrong? I feel really bad, I was hired as a Revit Guru and am in line for a promotion (demotion?) from drafter to BIM manager. Now I look like an idiot because half of the time I can’t even get into the project. I am so frustrated I am about to blow up!

Thumbs up Re: Can not Save to Central

    Cool!

I will bet that the issue is mapped shortcuts. I have the project directory as Q:\ but I am not sure everyone else
    does.

    Thanks

I am 90% sure it is a mapped drive issue. If use Revit to create your local copy and the "Create Local Copy" pick box is grey out, then you know you have a problem. Until our IT group began using the same paths for everyone, this was an issue. Go to Revit Clinic and check out their solution:
