Angry Nesting ceiling based families inside a ceiling based family

I've got a typical lighting layout, hosted by an ACT grid, that I want to group into a family for easy and repetitive placement.

The problem is that when I create a ceiling based family and nest a ceiling based light fixture, when I try to place the nested fixture on the ceiling in my new family, I get an error saying "Can't cut instance(s) of (family type name) out of its host."

Has anybody tried this before with success? I think I could achieve the same results with a named group, but would still like to know if what I'm proposing is conceptually impossible.

    Thanks!
    Ben

Wink Re: Nesting ceiling based families inside a ceiling based family

I have an answer. The light fixture was from Focal Point, and they designed all of their hosted families with voids rather than ceiling openings. I deleted the void and replaced with an opening, then re-nested.

It turns out that ceiling based objects with voids cannot be nested on ceilings, but ceiling based objects with openings can.
