Adaptive families: what, how, where?

I keep hearing and seeing all of these amazing models and families that use adaptive componetry, but I cannot seem to find anything that effectively teaches me what they are and how to use them correctly. An Adaptive Points for Dummies if you will...

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I found some nice videos on YouTube that were helpful. Just search Revit adaptive components or conceptual design or some such thing. I just started watching one and kept picking related ones.

I haven't found any comprehensive or organized set of tutorials, but if you are interested and motivated, there is enough material out there to piece the ideas together.
