Default Undo doesn't combine scroll wheel zoom/pan

Our office recently upgraded from running AutoCAD 2010 on Windows XP to 'CAD 2012 on Windows 7. I just noticed today that all of my zooming/panning around isn't being combined as I'm accustomed to (at least how I think I'm accustomed to, no way to check if 'CAD 2010 actually combines scroll wheel input like I remember it doing...)
    Checked all of my settings:

"Combine zoom and pan commands" under Undo/Redo is checked
UNDO settings: Auto = On, Control = ALL, Combine = Yes, Layer = Yes
UNDOCTL = 53 (from what I can tell, this is appropriate and correct)

Then I played around with zooming/panning/etc. What I found was that if I use keyboard input for the commands pan and zoom, undo WILL combine them. However, if I use my scroll wheel it sort of semi-combines a couple together in groups. The pattern seems be that it groups all pans one zoom. (see attached).

This isn't just my computer, restarting CAD doesn't help, restarting the computer doesn't help. Not really a giant issue, just a mildly annoying inconvenience.

Anyone willing to hazard a guess as to why there is a difference here?

    Three possible solutions are:-
    1. Clear any AC$/DMP/&ERR files from your computer. Junk files cause weird things to happen.
    2. Could be a memory allocation issue, in which case increase your virtual memory manually to the max
    3. Could be a setting on the mouse that conflicts with Acad, try switching off any overides.

    Hello.

I've got the same problem as Fraess below, in AutoCAD 2012 on Windows 7 as well (Win7 64-bit). I've did all the things you've wrote about - cleared all temp/error files, set virtual memory to 24000MB (Is it enough? What did you mean "to the max"?), checked that there are no mouse overrides at all.

When I manually type 'undo' command --> control --> combine --> no, then undo --> control --> combine --> yes - then it works, but only once. Another use of undo - and it's not combining again. Or rather - it is combining some of the zoom/pan operations, and some not. Moreover, every second undo doesn't do anything at all.

For example: I've drawn a line, then zoomed 4 times, then panned 4 times (all with the mousewheel). To undo the line, I had to use ctrl+z 11 times:

    Command: _u INTELLIPAN
    Command: _u
    Command: _u INTELLIPAN
    Command: _u
    Command: _u INTELLIPAN
    Command: _u
    Command: _u INTELLIPAN
    Command: _u
    Command: _u INTELLIZOOM
    Command: _u
    Command: _u LINE

--> it seems all the zooms were combined, but pans were not, and then there are every second undo not doing anything at all (that "empty" undo happens only between zoom&pan undos - with all the other commands there are no empty undos between...).

Please help - it's more and more pain in the *** every day...

    Regards,
    Michal Cyruchin

Does it matter if you don't undo your zooms? You can just as well Zoom "P" from your menu bar if it's the view that's wrong. Remember, you can also use the full Undo command, or, if you've erased an object mistakenly, use Oops
