    Default Revit Text Scale

I am trying to make 1 graphic scale in a drafting view so that i can add it to my sheets and just change the scale to match the sheet. But I cant seem to grasp the concept of how revit scales TEXT ( ie the numbers on the scale).

I want the text to scale to look right at any scale.

    Any suggestions would be great.

Revit doesn't scale text, text in revit will always print the height its set at, ie 3/32" text will be 3/32 at every scale.

If you're familiar with ADT/AutoCad, it's like placing text in Paperspace.....the size of the text is what the printed result will be. If you place it in modelspace, then you have to scale it up or down.

I think you'd be better off with a symbol family for your graphic scale(s). Scott Davis recently posted a scale family with common scales all in one family. I don't have the link at the moment.

I think Revit does scale text. If you are working on a plan that is at 1:100 Revit scales the text up by a factor of 100. If you change the scale to 1:200 Revit scales the text by a factor of 200. In AutoCAD if you place text in paperspace; you place it at the size that you want it. 1/8" text will be placed at 1/8" and will appear 1/8". There is no scaling. Placing text on your sheet is like placing text in paperspace. That's the way I see it anyway.

Revit scales text relative to the scale of the view. As Scott alluded to, text will always print the height it is set to. If you have a text type setup for 3/16" height, it will always be 3/16" relative to the view scale.

I never really thought of it as "Revit is scaling the text" but rather Revit is applying a scale factor to the text. In AutoCAD when you wanted 3/32" text at 1/4"=1'-0", you would apply a scale factor of 48 to the text style and you text would be 4-1/2" high in model space (remember how fun this was!). I think this is what Revit is doing, only in the background and more elegantly.
