Is there a way to change a Ceiling Hosed Family to a Level Based Family in Revit 2012? if so can someone send me the steps?
No way.
Starting family templates cannot be changed.
If you want that kind of flexibility, you need to create the geometry in a empty template and later host it in a face/ceiling/levels/etc template.
Not the best option for model performance, but great if you want to recycle your libraries.
The only work-around I've found for this is to do the following:
-Create a "dummy" project.
-Create a ceiling and insert the ceiling-based families you'd like to change
-Open a second project, link in the "dummy" project, and copy-monitor the families.
-Now you can select these copied families and save them as level based.
Full disclosure - I've never tried this with ceiling-based families, only with wall-based, but I think it should work.
unfortunately I have to figure something out. the Architects don't want to give me a ceiling on this project.
We have used a 'Ghost Ceiling' in the past. Basically it has no pattern & minimal thickness. It's really only there to host elements to.
