    Default 2d 1/2 families - example: lifts

    Hi Reviters,

    got a little question:

I am working a 2D 1/2 family for lifts. So I set up my detail component family and loaded it up into my generic model family. Now, I am sure you guys know the trick: to have the detail compenent family showing up on all levels I set up a height parameter which i can pull to the level needed in a project file.

for the plan this works fine, it shows up nicely etc. Now comes the question: if it works for a plan view why doesn't it work for an elevation view ? In other words I created a detail component for the door elevation to show up on each floor. However it only shows up on the base level within a project. How come it works for a plan but not for an elevation ?

    Anyone an idea ?

Thanks for your comments and enjoy the summer !

    Hey, Walter.

Think of your elevator family as an extrusion from level 1 to level n. The plan detail is like the profile you're extruding and will show up on every plan view when you slice through the elevator family. However, the elevation detail is just a projection. It shows only where you placed it. You aren't slicing through your family, so there is nothing more to show than the one detail.

I hope that that makes sense.

As an aside, I create a similar elevator family, but mine just has a shaft "X" to show the shaft size and so I can tag it. Then I have a door family with the cab as a plan detail that I place at every level where there is a stop.

    Hi Damon,

Cheers for the answer, good idea to do it the other way around - though your cab doors might get in the way on your schedules, no ??

    Thanks
