    Default Autolisp dwg geometry control

Its been a long time since I used any Lisp functions for anything insdie Autocad. I only have Autocad 2009 LT available to me at the moment. I do however remember being able to get a lot of things done back in the day using Autolisp programming code to perform many a function inside Autocad. I am curious at this point in time as to whether or not Autoliosp is still the number one choice for this kind of thing or has the world moved on too VB for all that kind of thing??
I need to know if I can use Autolisp to have the dwg select and place certain items of geometry from a library and then into the dwg for several different configurations of layouts, ie: different valves but same location, different levels of equipment but same location, not sure if this is clear enough for anyone to get a idea of what I need the program to do for me within the dwg structure.
I would appreciate any and all comments on this minor dilema

LISP is still the leader for simple, front-line automation. Your immediate problem is greater - no programming for LT.
