Default Report deviations to existing survey database points when importing a field book file.

Summary: This feature would help prove the quality of the field work. It would indicate how measurements to existing control points are checking and would also be useful in proving the accuracy of points set out in the field.

Description: When a field book file is imported into Civil 3D there should always be a report indicating how the measurements to existing points (project control points or pre-calculated points set out in the field) are checking. It would save countless hours of office work trying to confirm that the points have been set out properly and that the work agrees with existing control points. Not all survey fieldwork - even today - is carried out by GPS.
If the points exists in the survey database, there should be feedback to the Civil 3D operator each time he/she imports field measurements to the database. If a point exists, the software should report to the operator how the existing coordinates are checking with the measured information being imported, and the operator should be given the option of replacing the existing coordinates. A report should be provided.

Our current process is this - after our field crews have set out points in the field they open a new field book file and tie in all of the points just set out. When they bring the information back to the office, the field book file is processed in a stand-alone software package that we have had for many years which provides a report indicating the deviation from the existing coordinates in the coordinate file (design coordinates)for each point tied in. If Civil 3D had this ability it would be extremely useful and save us a considerable amount of time on 'quality control'.
