    Default 3D PIPE NETWORK

I TRIED TO EXPORT A PIPE NETWORK TO CAD, BUT ONLY THE 2D SYMBOLS WERE CONVERTED THE 3D PIPES AND STRUCTURES WERE NOT. ANY SUGGESTIONS? LANDXML? 3DMAX?

did you use the command EXPORT to Autocad
did you see the AAECOBJECTEXPLODE command execute at the command line?

    1. setup a SW axonometric viewport
    2. changed the visual style to realistic
    3. ran EXPORTTOAUTOCAD2007

the result was only 2D linework as seen in plan views. something similar happens with corridors, but I have found exporting to MAX then to CAD does the trick, only did not work for the pipe network. I will check for AAECOBJECTEXPLODE in the command echo, and try to use the C3D OE in MAX

I think you may need to push them out to navisworks and then autocad.

SUCCESS. CIVIL3D TO 3DMAX TO AUTOCAD 2008 THE FINAL RESULT IS POLYFACE MESH SPLIT BY LAYER. XREF THE PIPE DWG INTO 3DMAX AND CREATE A SPECIAL RELOAD PROFILE FOR WHICH ISOLATE THE LAYERS THEN USE THIS MAX FILE TO EXPORT TO CAD FROM TIME TO TIME THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT.

Why are you doing this at all?
One can take snapshots of 3d pipe network object in the object viewer window right inside C3D?

I would like to know how you exported your pipe networks from Civil 3D to 3ds Max and then to AutoCAD. Thanks.

TO EXPORT PIPE NETWORK TO 3DMAX DOWNLOAD THE CIVL3D OBJECT ENABLER AND INSTALL IT. THEN XREF CIVIL3D DRAWING INTO 3D MAX ON THE REFERENCE MENU TURN OFF ALL LAYERS EXCEPT PIPE NETWORK LAYERS. THE RESULT SHOULD BE A 3D MASSING MODEL OF THE PIPES
