    Default Otrack Help

Hey AutoCAD gurus, I need some insight into something. I know and use otacking all the time but I think perhaps I am missing something in a particular situation....here's the scenario:

Let's say I have a door in a wall and I want to mirror this door so it is on the exact opposite side of the wall. What I have been doing is drawing a line across the wall thickness and then using the midpoint of that line as the mirror plane for my mirror command. It seems to me there must be a way to do this mirror command without having to draw that line across the thickness of the wall. Do I do it using otracking? Some sort of temporary tracking point? Any insight would be great.

I'm attaching a pdf showing an example of the scenario in question in case my description wasn't clear.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I just learned this tip & I have been using it since. Instead of drawing the line, when asked to pick your mirror point, right click & select "Mid Between 2 Points" (or type MTP). This will pick the midpoint of the 2 points you picked, in your case, the corner of the walls & that will become your mirror point.

This trick can also be for any command that is asking for user snap points.

Brilliant! I knew there must be a way to do it without drawing and the erasing a line for the midpoint.

    Thanks!
