Revit and Facility Management

Does anyone see the future of Revit to include being used in Facility Management? I have no doubt models will be used, but do any owners open the model in Revit and use the data from there for FM?

Not exactly what I was asking. Based on the video, it seemed FM Interact is what the owner would use, and Revit is what the Designer would use. Does anyone see the Owner opening Revit and extracting data, making changes, Using the software during Facility Management?

If they are interested in having FM Staff learn Revit, invest in hardware and software--like a design firm, then yes--they could. But from our experience, they do not want to use Revit directly--
but want a FM solution ( such as FM Systems who partners with Autodesk) that their FM staff can easily use and understand.

I don't think Revit will ever be completely embraced by Facilities. Most that I've talked with want so much more out of the software. Ties to controls for environment, like Johnson or MechoSystems. Real time systems monitoring for building performance.

The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is requiring BIM from project inception to FM. They perform FM in-house and are training their staff to use Revit. An architect I worked with at another firm, Safiy Abdur-Rahman, was hired to head the effort. I know for a fact that he can sit down with a Revit model and make sense of it.

The Federal GSA has required BIM for FM for years. They have lots of manuals online explaining their requirements. We had a courthouse analyzed by them using Solibri software that produced a report on compliance to GSA FM standards. They not only opened the model, they sent us a report on what they found in it that was not to their liking.......

Just these two agencies make up a huge amount of the work underway in the US.

I wonder if that only applies to new construction or remodels to, as we just finished up one this past Summer...
