    Question Navis Clash Test Exports

Is it just me or does anybody experience a lack in the exporting capabilties of the Output Tab....?

I have a decent set of Clash tests all setup for 1 out of 4 Buildings, and did the export in 2 different pushes, and got very little response. I did an \Output Tab\Export Data\Clash Tests >> to try to get these nice Clash Setups to the XML file to bring them into other Building NWF's. Did this export in both no clash runs done yet......AND even after Clash runs done......out to XML, and import in other Bldg. NWF's and only get like 2 out of 20-30 Clash test.

would like to be able to export all these batch Setups, and get that nice setup over to new NWF's, kind of like a Template to at least start with and enhance from there.

A temporary work around, that sort of works, is to Save-As of the "well-Setup" NWF to the New Bldg. and then re-Append all the components of the New Bldg. and then re-connect the components per each Batch...........but at least the Batch setups are there........

Export of say, the Saved Viewpoints and re-import into new Bldg. NWF's....works just fine. Seems to just
be lacking in the Clash Tests export.

Any comments or procedures that you guys find effective......?

    Thanks,

    BB

I posted a thread a while back about how I was doing just this on multiple buildings on one site.

Take your NWF file with all your batches, rules, etc.. and delete all but one file. I actually made a file with my company logo using 3D pipes and ducts so I'd know it's in the model.

Save that file as a 'template'... I know, I know, every other program from Autodesk allows you to make templates to use but, not NavisWorks..

Now, start a new model with that .nwf file you just saved (actually, a copy of it.) and start appending your drawings. The rules are there, the batches are there, etc..

You could also export your Options to an .xml file to make sure they make it into your new .nwf file so all your quick properties are all ready to go as well.

Sometimes, you'll have to tune up your selection sets in the new .nwf but, at least you don't have to try and remember all the rules, batches, etc..

    Hope that helps..
Give a man AutoCad, and he'll draw you a floor plan.
Give a man Revit and he'll build you a house.
Give Cadmama a couple of drinks and she'll have everyone singing Rockytop!

I'm interested to see what is happening here. I haven't had any real issues with exporting the "Clash Test" settings via the xml out, and I have been able to import it into a blank NWF file. I can see some of the benefits of creating a "Blank"* NWF file but it is nice to start with a blank canvas sometimes.

brianpcd - Are all your sets, "Search Sets"?
If your clash sets are using "selection sets" the "xml" export won't work.

    Cheers
