    Question TDS Protocol

We are using a Leica TCR 705 data collector (300/700 Series Software). Our surveyor wants to download his raw data to a RW5 format. In Survey Link under the data collector menu his raw data looks fine. However, when he clicks "Generate Coordinates" he gets an error message "Invalid file"

Does anyone know how to download raw data from the Leica TCR 705 data collector to a RW5 format?

    Try this process:

To transfer the Leica GSI raw file from the Total Station to the computer:

    1. From the Data Collection/Input menu, choose Data Collection Link to start the Survey Link DC program.
    2. From the Transfer menu, choose Send Receive to open the Transfer dialog box.
    3. Select the Receive tab.
    4. Choose the Leica TC605/TC805/TC905 from the 'Which Data Collector or Total Station is Used' list.
    5. Select the desired output GSI Measurement Data as either feet or meters.
    6. Select Choose File to open the Save As dialog box.
    7. Choose the folder to look in, enter the desired file name, and select the Leica GSI Raw Data (*.gsi) file type.
    8. Choose Save to return to the Transfer dialog box.
    9. Set the Leica Total Station to send the file.
    10. Choose Receive.

To convert the Leica GSI Raw Data (*.gsi) file to a TDS Raw Data (*.rw5) file:

    1. From the Conversions menu, choose Convert File Format.
    2. In the Convert dialog box, under Input, choose Raw Data file as the Input. Choose Leica GSI Raw Data from the Input Type drop-down list.
    3. Select Choose File.
    4. In the Open dialog box, choose the folder to look in and choose the GSI raw file created in step 7 of the preceding procedure.
    5. Choose Open to return to the Convert dialog box.

    7. Select Choose File to open the Save As dialog box.
    8. Choose the folder to save the file in. Enter the file name. Select the TDS Raw Data (*.rw5) file type.
    9. Choose Save to return to the Convert dialog box, then choose Convert.
    10. Choose OK in response to the message that the file was successfully converted, then choose Close to return to the Survey Link DC program.

To convert the TDS Raw Data (*.rw5) file to an Autodesk Field Book File (*.fbk):

    1. Repeat steps 1 through 3 in the preceding procedure, but instead choose TDS Raw Data as the Input type and choose the file created in step 8 of the preceding procedure.
    2. Repeat steps 6 through 10 in the preceding procedure, but instead choose Autodesk - Softdesk FBK as the Output type. Enter the desired file name. Choose the Autodesk - Softdesk FBK Files (*.fbk) file type.
    3. Select File > Exit to return to the Survey menu.
    4. Review the new Field Book file by selecting Survey > Data Collection/Input > Edit Field Book. After reviewing the Field Book file, you can import the field book file and create points and linework in the drawing.
