    Default dialog box problem

after selecting an mtext string to mask, neither in the quick properties or properties dialog box can i mask the text.
when i select the little box w/3 dots in it, nothing happens. if I edit the text i can select the masking properties i want.
any idea of how to fix this? i was able to use this operation before, but now it has stopped working.

Maybe the dialog is off screen, try this, after picking the three dots, hit the TAB key 2 times, hit the space bar, hit the TAB key 3 times, hit enter. If your text has a background mask then the dialog is off the screen. There are various methods for moving those or getting them back on screen, on involves changing the resolution of your monitor. Or if you have had two monitors and now have one maybe reconnect the other monitor and move it on screen.
    or
When the dialog is supposed to be visible, but you can't see it, press ALT+Space, then "M", then use the arrow keys to move the dialog.

Let's figure out if the "dialog off the screen" is the problem. (a repair won't fix that).
When you click the "little box w/3 dots in it", and nothing happens...if you click the mouse in the graphics area, what happens?
Do you get a beep and the regular windows cursor, and you can't get back to the PROPS palette until you press ESC?
--OR-- do you get the normal AutoCAD crosshairs?

after i click the box and nothing happens: as soon as i move my mouse back into the graphics area the crosshairs appear w/o having to click or press ESC or anything.

haven't solved the problem yet, but have some interesting info to relay. This problem originally occurred in 2013. i recently upgraded to 2014 and chose not to migrate my settings at first. the dialog problem mentioned above was not there. everything worked fine. when i went to plot i realized i needed some pertinent data so i migrated my settings. now the same issue has occurred in 2014. any suggestions?
