GI11-3L: Hands-on GPS and GIS

Class Description: Get a hands-on introduction to creating a GIS using your hand-held GPS receiver and Autodesk Map. You'll be assigned to collect some data along the famous Las Vegas "Strip" before coming to class. Next, you'll download and bring the points into Autodesk Map. You'll then attach attributes and generate the database, as well as create queries and topologies. After adding aerial photos and other GIS information, you'll complete your base map and prepare a final presentation layout. In this class, you'll experience first-hand just how easy it is to complete a simple GIS project from start to finish. And don't worry if you can't bring a GPS receiver and download cable ... we'll have plenty of data for you to use.
